Oculo-auriculo-vertebral Spectrum (Goldenhar's Syndrome) - A Case Report
N Mohan
April-June 2005, 17(2):57-60
Goldenhar's syndrome also known as Hemifacial microsomia and Oculo auriculo vertebral dysplasia is a type of mandibulofacial dysostosis, with ocular problems, abnormal pinna, a small mandible and epibulbar dermoids. It represents a heterogenous group of disorders characterized by abnormalities of structures derived from the first and second branchial arches. The case presented here had all the typical manifestations of the syndrome but the facial asymmetry was less pronounced. It presents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the maxillofacial, orthodontic and other dental and medical specialists. The management of this condition requires a coordinated team effort from many specialists. A rare syndrome, it presents with varying features and involves many organs and systems making an interesting study. The features of this syndrome are discussed along with a case presentation. Extraosseous Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor - A Rare Case Report
Tapasya Amrule, Mukta Motwani, SS Degwekar
April-June 2005, 17(2):80-81
In 1907 Dreibladt first described this rare tumor as 'pseudoadenoma admantium' and since it is peculiar to the mouth and contains some cells with a superficial resemblance to the internal enamel epithelium, it is often linked, with the ameloblastoma - a tumor with neither the clinical nor the histopathological feature of this very benign lesion. This case presents the very rarest extraosseous example of the tumor of a 20 year old female, with the painless gingival swelling in right maxillary permanent canine region.

Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor - Report of Three Cases
Avinash Kshar, Ani John, Hemant Umarji
April-June 2005, 17(2):61-65
The Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor (AOT) is a benign epithelial tumor that accounts for 3% of all odontogenic tumors. This tumor, most commonly found in maxillary arch, mimics a follicular cyst associated with an impacted tooth. Clinically, it presents as a slowly growing, painless mass, found more frequently in female patients and has a peak incidence in the second decade of life. Ranking four among the odontogenic tumors the AOT is not a particularly rare tumor. Surgical enucleation is the treatment of choice and recurrences have not been reported. In this article three cases of AOT are presented with characteristic clinical, radiographic and histological features.

Solitary Plasma Cell Myeloma of The Mandible - Roentgenographic Variants
Anita Balan, Tinky Bose, Nileena R Kumar, MS Deepa
April-June 2005, 17(2):66-71
Myeloma is a spectrum of diseases within the general category of plasma cell dyscrasias. Plasma cell myeloma may present as one of three distinct clinical entities: Multiple myeloma, Solitary Plasma cell myeloma of Bone (SPB) and extra medullary Plasmacytoma. The solitary Plasmacytoma of bone is an unusual neoplasm of plasma cells. It occurs most frequently in the vertebrae, femur, and pelvis. Its occurrence in the mandible is very rare. This solitary lesion usually appears as a swelling in the premolarmolar region. The presenting radiological feature can be a destructive or a multilocular lesion. The clinical and radiographic features of SPB are nonspecific and can be mistaken for giant cell granulomas, odontogenic cysts etc. This article describes the clinical presentation and varying roentgenographic features of three cases of SPB that had reported to our department.

Fusion and Gemination of Teeth - Functional & Cosmetic Implications
Dilip Kumar, FR Karjodkar, Payal Chokhani, Sunali Khanna
April-June 2005, 17(2):72-75
Fusion and gemination are both developmental anomalies whose etiology has till date not been determined. The former is believed to be the union of two adjacent teeth where in the latter case two crowns develop from a single tooth germ. These teeths are unaesthetic and prone to disease because of their abnormal morphology. The rarity with which this entity appears along with complex characteristics, however often makes it difficult to treat.
